A solução projetada e executada em 2003/2005, adotou sistema estrutural-construtivo em elementos metálicos, maximizando o aproveitamento do potencial da estrutura metálica suporte do antigo ginásio refuncionalizado (projeto original do Arq. Gabriel Aun, que colaborou na etapa de estudos preliminares) . Como a nova solução arquitetônica manteve a mesma modulação da estrutura existente, alguns dos pilares foram aproveitados com reforços adicionais de peças e fundações. As instalações sanitárias (vestiários) do pavimento térreo também foram aproveitadas com pequenas reformas e redefinições funcionais. Até o terceiro pavimento foi mantido o mesmo acabamento em tijolos de concreto aparente do antigo ginásio. O telhado original foi substituido, estabelecendo-se o barramento de topo em nível com o piso do quarto pavimento, cujas paredes em alvenaria leve foram revestidas em chapas de aço pré-pintadas. As mesmas chapas-telhas, do tipo sanduiche, foram utilizadas nas coberturas. As cores, padrões e texturas são similares às utilzadas na reforma anterior da FACE-FUMEC.
A construção do espaço biblioteca FCH, sobre uma quadra esportiva mantida ativa com altura piso-teto de 6,60m, exigiu solução estrutural diferenciada. No pavimento térreo do setor núcleo salas-de-aula FACE-FUMEC, o espaço-pátio de recreio está iluminado e ventilado zenitalmente através do vazio vertical vedado com painéis translúcidos de policarbonato. Um elevador interno (8 lugares) , rampas com inclinações adequadas e instalações sanitárias especiais, garantem acessibilidade e deslocamentos verticais sem restrições para todos os pavimentos . Os ambientes das salas-de-aula, embora podendo ser climatizados mecanicamente, têm ventilação natural cruzada e aberturas voltadas para o quadrante leste, de insolação favorável.
No pavimento Biblioteca FCH-FUMEC, a acessibilidade total está igualmente garantida. Os ambientes das estanterias estão protegidos dos raios solares diretos e os ambientes de leitura adequadamente ambientados e iluminados. Um pequeno elevador interno garante a acessibilidade adicional necessária para o pavimento-mezanino, cujo leiaute pode ser flexibilizado facilmente conforme demandas específicas do setor. Climatização mecânica está prevista para os espaços especiais da biblioteca que exigem controle rigoroso de temperatura e humidade relativa.

The metallic structural system, adopted in this multifunctional retrofit (2003), maximizes the potential of the structure that supports the existing gymnasium, (from the Architect Gabriel Aun who has contributed to the first design stages). As the new architectural approach kept the existing modular system, I have taken advantage of some of its pillars, reinforcing them with additional components and foundation. The previously used finishing in exposed concrete bricks was kept just up to the third floor. The original roof was substituted with pre-painted sandwich metal sheets conceiving the top border that crowns the fourth floor, whose walls in light masonry, are also overlaid with pre-painted steel sheets. Insulating metal sheet-roofing tiles were used for the new roof.
Up to the third floor, I kept the existing finishing in exposed concrete bricks. The colors, the standards and textures are similar to the ones used in the previous retrofit of FACE/FUMEC.
The library space, over an existing covered sports court with its floor-ceiling height of 6.60 m that was kept in use, demanded a particular structural solution. On the ground floor of FACE-FUMEC classroom sector, the enclosed courtyard used mainly during the break time is lit and ventilated through a skylight with translucent polycarbonate panels. An internal lift for 8 people, ramps with suitable slope and special sanitary facilities, guarantee easy access to the other floors, without restrictions. The classroom areas have crossing ventilation and openings facing the Eastern quadrant that has favorable sunlight. On the FCH-FUMEC Library floor, the total accessibility is equally guaranteed. The areas for the library stacks are protected from the direct sunrays and the reading areas suitably lit and with proper ambient conditions. A small internal lift provides additional accessibility necessary for the mezzanine, whose layout can be easily made flexible according to the specific demands of the sector. Mechanical air-conditioning is foreseen to special spaces of the library that demand strict temperature and relative humidity controls.
